Two Week Biodiversity Research Camp (For Schools)

Give your students the experience of a lifetime as they undertake their own unique biodiversity research projects where the ocean meets the desert.

Begin your time in Namibia with a road trip across the Kalahari Desert spotting oryx, vultures, ostriches and springbok. From the moment you arrive, you’ll be living in our unique boarding houses - beautiful old Lüderitz buildings with classic architecture and some of the best views in town.

  • Explore the town of Lüderitz, with its rich history and coastal charm.

  • Work with local experts on a two-week research project and final presentation

  • Take a boat trip to visit the kelp forest and see African penguins on Halifax Island.

  • Visit the world-famous ghost town of Kolmanskop and walk through its sand-filled houses.

  • Drive on a nighttime safari, track brown hyenas, experience a traditional braai and so much more…

By the end of your time here, your students will have gained a greater appreciation of the ocean, the desert and their wildlife. They will have learned of Namibian sustainability efforts, explored the biodiversity of Lüderitz and stepped into history at Diaz Point and Shark Island.

We operate 6 camps a year during each of our school half terms for students of secondary school age - Year 7 to Year 13. Please get in touch to book your place or to find out more.

For students ready to take on the full Lüderitz Blue School experience, our term-long residential programme is a life-changing adventure. You’ll join our international boarding community, follow a structured academic timetable, and immerse yourself in unique fieldwork and cultural experiences.

Across a full term, you’ll:

  • Live in Lüderitz’s historic boarding houses, sharing daily life with students from around the world.

  • Attend classes that blend core academic subjects with our special focus on ocean and environmental education.

  • Participate in field studies and research projects, learning first-hand about Namibia’s marine ecosystems, desert environments, and sustainable living practices.

  • Take regular excursions, from boat trips to kelp forests and peninsula camping expeditions, to multi-day journeys into the desert and national parks.

  • Build independence, resilience, and confidence by living away from home, contributing to the running of boarding life, and taking responsibility for yourself and your community.

Beyond adventure and academics, a full term at Lüderitz Blue School is about transformation. You’ll grow as a learner, an explorer, and a global citizen, gaining the kind of experience that sets you apart at university applications and beyond.

When you leave, you won’t just take memories—you’ll carry with you the confidence, skills, and friendships that define a true international education.

Internships and Work Experience - Aged 18+

Internships (Ages 18+)

Looking for a way to make your time off meaningful? Our internship programme is designed for young adults who want to give back, gain experience, and grow as leaders.

As an intern, you’ll become part of the life of the Lüderitz Blue School—helping run projects, supporting our staff, and even taking the lead in clubs or extracurricular activities. You might help deliver sports sessions, organise cultural events, mentor younger students, or contribute to our environmental and community programmes.

Life here isn’t just about work. You’ll live in our historic boarding houses alongside an international community, explore Namibia’s breathtaking landscapes, and experience life in a place where desert meets ocean. By the end, you’ll leave not only with professional skills and leadership experience, but also with the satisfaction of having made a real difference.

Research Placements (Postgraduate, 3–6 Months)

Our research placements are tailored for postgraduate students with an interest in environmental science, sustainability, or education. Set in Lüderitz’s extraordinary coastal environment, this programme offers a rare opportunity to combine academic research with real-world impact.

During your placement, you’ll:

  • Participate in field studies on marine and desert ecosystems.

  • Contribute to ongoing research into kelp forests, biodiversity, and sustainable resource use.

  • Support the extracurricular education of our pupils, helping to inspire the next generation of scientists and environmental stewards.

  • Collaborate with our teaching and research staff, while developing your own projects in a supportive, hands-on environment.

With placements running from 3 to 6 months, this programme is ideal for graduates looking to expand their research portfolio, gain practical field experience, and immerse themselves in one of the most unique natural environments in the world.
