We were absolutely delighted that the Marine and Maritime Studies Curriuclum at the Luderitz Blue school was recognised by TES as one of the finalists in the Curriculum Initiative of the Year.
Marnie Erasmus, the Head of Blue Education at the Luderitz Blue School, has developed a standalone Marine and Maritime Studies (M&MS) Curriculum to be rolled out across Years 3-8. It is a standalone academic subject, designed to build a deep knowledge about and love for the ocean, while developing the child’s understanding of their place in the world.
Our vision for Marine and Maritime Studies (M&MS) is to place the ocean at the centre of learning, ensuring every child develops the knowledge, skills, and values needed to become an active steward of the marine environment.
The curriculum explores the ocean from multiple perspectives—ecological, cultural, historical, artistic, and economic—so that students build both scientific understanding and a deep sense of connection. This approach empowers them to care about, advocate for, and take responsibility for protecting the ocean as one of the world’s most precious resources.
The Tes International School awards recognise excellence in schools all over the world. We were incredibly honoured to be shortlisted among some other extremely prestigious schools from across the planet. Congratulations to all the winners and thank you Tes for the recognition.
